Give me a call Paris Hilton..we should talk

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

My wife had a bad expierence at Hilton Hotels recently.  The below was sent to their customer service department….and thus far, no response.

My company booked me at the Hilton Garden Inn because the Hilton network is a preferred vendor. Unfortunately I have had a disappointing stay on this business trip for the following reasons:

Spent hours yesterday troubleshooting VPN issues while at the hotel even though I had not connectivity issues and was easily able to connect to VPN at the local Starbucks. After 2 Helpdesk calls, the tech easily dismissed my issue with the promise that an on-site engineer would be calling me in 30 minutes. I never received a call and have had no follow up. With this unresolved, I should have switched hotels because of this. Instead, I have spent hours and dollars at Starbucks in order to get my work done.

Two nights in a row my room key did not work. I had to call the front desk and wait up to 10 minutes to be let in.

There was no room service menu in the room. You can imagine that going down 5 floors to the hotel bar to get the menu really defeats the purpose of room service.

And lastly, the remote controll is terrible. I have to raise my arm above my head to even get the TV to accept my action. When it does start to change the channel or volume, the delay is as slow as 2 seconds. The menu is awful too. It tells me channels but does not show programming. With that, it’s useless and I might as well surf the channels. With this LodgeNet “fisher price” remote control and it’s massive channel changing delay, it would take me and hour to make it around all of the channels.

Honestly, I had much higher expectations for my stay here. So I’ll recommend to my company, friends, and family to steer clear of the Hilton Hotels until some of these issues can be resolved…and hope that tomorrow, after I have a long day of business meetings, and spend hours after that in Starbucks paying for Wi-Fi, that my room key will work and I’ll be able to order room service before having to go downstairs to retrieve a menu.

(P.S. my feedback regarding this stay will be posted to my blog)
